During the last 5 years the IT Industry life cycle has taken full
circle. It began from rock bottom levels in a few far fest regions of
USA and soon became the world’s most envied employment and revenue
generating industry. It was said by the Experts that what Conventional
industries achieved in terms of growth and size, the same was achieved
by IT industry in a life cycle of 7 years. No other stream of business
was found lucrative, more progressive and more employment generative
than the IT industry. All of a sudden we saw a spate of new generation
businessmen, and new generation professionals by passing the proven
war loads of industry. The trend was more visible in the progressive
of south east Asia like Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia, China
and last but not the least India, which became a MECCA of
international business communities searching globally for IT solutions
and Talent.
In the case of IT industry in India pace of things was so fast that
the people in general after spending lacs of rupees on the Education
of their children and themselves got only advanced computer education
was in fact only operative skill sets on a number of software packages
like Microsoft technologies. The fact is that a whole generation of
Indians was made to believe by the media and the advertisement that
this is the root to permanent employment and career growth. No one
bothered to understand the very fundamentals of software development
i.e. advancement in software means obsolescence of the existing IT
products and solutions.
The result is for everyone to see. The truth has come out in the open,
dotcom companies have busted and we have lacs and lacs of IT techies
looking for jobs with uncertainty written on their faces.
All along my career of more than 20 years in the field of application
Electronics, I have maintained that the real industry and Economy
driver is not IT but EMBEDDED TECHNOLOGY. It is the very fundamental
of growth of any industry. The fact of life is that embedded
Technology is a very old and trusted discipline of automation in
Industry and other core sectors like Power, Energy conservation,
Medical, defense, space, telecom, manufacturing and other Industrial
processes.
The wrong trend being adopted by the deserted IT institutes is that
off late they have started trading the word Embedded Technology as the
new employment platform. It is becoming fashionable to conduct courses
in Embedded Technologies without having any knowledge of the
fundamentals of the Embedded System Engineering.
To check this trend the experts of embedded technologies from all over
India have formed an organisation under a trust, named as Embedded
Technology Promotion Organisation (ETPO) that is committed to promote
the discipline of embedded Technologies in the right perspective and
enlighting people about its scope, role and significance in the wake
of current employment and industrial recession.
To put the things in right
perspective, let me state that all progress and automation that has
come to today’s level has passed thro’ various stages in the history
of development. The Ist stage was the stage of mechanical devices
primarily moved by the manual power. Then came the stage of
electrically powered devices and machines. Electronic equipment and
systems was the next phase of development.
Now we are into the era of convergence. Embedded Technologies are the
only platform that can integrate the advancements in the fields of
software, hardware, application engineering, industrial processes and
system developments.
The truth is that if science has to progress, industry has to go for
cost effective automation, and IT has to become more acceptable and
usable, all of them will have to ultimately take refuge in the
disciplines of embedded technologies. It is the key to future growth
and its application is valid in all segments of industry. In fact it
is becoming impossible to imagine life without depending on the
benefits of Embedded system engineering.
In our country the basic problem is the lack of reliable interface
between Industry and technical education, while the industry is crying
for the technical manpower that delivers from day one of their job,
lacs of technically educated people in the country are un-employed
wasting their time and talent on unproductive assignments.
ETPO has taken upon itself to fill this vital gap and make the
technically educated people industry worthy. From the industry end
ETPO has decided to provide comprehensive solutions including
automation packages, monitoring devices and on hand system training to
the industry owners who are facing certain closure owing to global
competition and cut throat price wars being waged by the big brothers
of the industry.
Very special courses, training packages, awareness programs and
customized solutions are already operative giving benefit to a large
number of people. Embedded Technology engineering a subject that
nobody, the central govt., the states, the Industry, the educationists
and the people in general can hardly afford to overlook. Ignoring this
